Devotional Thought
Jesus connects love with obedience.
Many people say they love God, but Jesus gives us a clear test of love: “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.”
Love is more than emotion. Love is surrender. Love is trust. Love is obedience.
When we obey God, we are saying, “Lord, I trust Your wisdom more than my feelings. I trust Your Word more than my opinion. I trust Your way more than my desire.”
John 14:21 also carries a powerful promise. Jesus says the one who loves Him and keeps His commands will be loved by the Father, and Jesus will love that person and show Himself to them.
This means obedience opens the door to deeper revelation.
God does not reveal more of Himself simply to satisfy curiosity. He reveals Himself to surrendered hearts.
If we want to hear God more clearly, we must obey what He has already said. Sometimes we are asking God for a new word when we have not obeyed the last instruction.
Obedience is not bondage. Obedience is love responding to God.
