The Presence of God and the Renewed Mind

Scripture

Romans 12:2 (NIV)
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Reflection

The moment we accept Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. Our spirit is made alive in Christ, but our minds still carry old ways of thinking that were shaped by our past experiences, fears, culture, and the values of the world.

This is why Paul tells us that transformation comes through the renewing of the mind.

Notice that he does not say we become transformed by trying harder or by becoming more religious. Transformation begins when our minds are continually aligned with God's truth.

Every time we read God's Word, meditate on His promises, and choose to believe Him above our circumstances, the Holy Spirit begins replacing old patterns of thinking with the mind of Christ.

As our minds are renewed, we become more aware of the presence we already carry.

We stop living according to what we see and begin living according to what God has said.

The renewed mind becomes fertile ground for God's presence to be expressed through our daily lives.

Prayer

Father, renew my mind through Your Word. Help me to reject every thought that is not

aligned with Your truth and teach me to think as Christ thinks. May my life be transformed

as I continually fix my mind on You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Key Thought

A renewed mind recognizes what an unrenewed mind often overlooks—the presence of God already lives within you.
